The challenges of balance
Some students (most) generally like small discussions/exercises.
Others may object that it breaks their concentration and is distracting.
What to do?

I will share some quotes I’d like more thoughts on.
What people like
- show&tell
- class engagement and remembering names of peers
- the online syllabus (3)
- The learning checks like mini quizzes and rewriting concepts in our own words. I found that when
I went to study for the midterm I was already very familiar with all of the material detailed
syllabus with links to resources
- I really like how you include all different kinds of teaching strategies (ie lecture,
powerpoint, videos, small group activities). You also use a lot of current/real life examples which
I think helps make the material more relevant and meaningful.
What could be improved
- more small group work
- walking through the interactive syllabus in slightly more depth—it can be hard to find what
you’re looking for — how so?
- If assignment criteria/instructions were all focused on one page, rather than the current
practice of a link to an assignment, with another link attached that takes you to a different page
to explain how to do the assignment, and another page with tips for the assignment, and another page
that will lead you to a page with a resource you need for the assignment — cs:abtraction; provoking
use of info organization and meta-cognition (checklists)?
