In Academically Adrift: Limited Learning on College Campuses the authors note that 36% of students do not improve on the Collegiate Learning Assessment over four years. (The CLA tests critical thinking, complex reasoning, and writing skills.)
They recommend classes which require students to read more than 40 pages a week and write a 20 page paper (ArumRoksa 2011).
Some students (most) generally like small discussions/exercises.
Others may object that it breaks their concentration.
What to do?
I will share some quotes I’d like more feedback on.
I enjoy the use of video clips and modern news examples.
In my Intro to Comm course with Dale Herbeck, I really enjoyed his frequent use of video clips.
I feel like we should read more current events and compare them with the theories
For the Prototype/Study Guide assignment, there was some confusion among our group as to the specific guidelines for the project, as there was no assignment page or anything.
I find it really distracting when other people hold conversations while you are talking.
