• When we use a textbook, we’ll go meta.

• Not the sort of class where “just get Profs notes and you’ll get an A”

• You will be working, out of class and in:
  • Reading responses

Meta

• Meta means going a level higher and taking a bigger picture: how can we improve?
• Educational psychologists speak of meta-cognition: becoming cognizant of our learning.
• The syllabus is a Web page, with links to how to do everything and do it better.

Communication is inherent to human organization; good interpersonal and group communication is essential to its success.

Skills

• recall, compare, and give examples of key concepts and theories of organizational communication;
• ask complex questions about organizational communication and have a sense of how one might answer those questions;
• analyze and make recommendations from case studies;
• successfully practice communication skills via class discussion and activities, writing, and student collaboration.
