The_Doors

One of the most famous band of the late sixties and early seventies.

They started the group in 1965 ins Los Angeles, California in the United States.

The group consisted of Jim Morrison (vocals, b. 1943 d. 1971), Ray Manzarek (organ, keyboard, b. 1939), Robbie Krieger (guitar, b. 1946) and John Densmore (drums, b. 1944). Morrison left the band in 1971 and died soon aftwards in Paris. The remaining Doors continued and released two more albums, Other Voices and Full Circle, but weren't nearly as successful as with Morrison.

The band's lyrics are said to be influenced by the writings of Aldous Huxley, particularly The Doors of Perception (from where the band took their name); Huxley's experiences with mescaline having parallels with Morrison's frequent use of LSD.

Their music tended to be focused around the swirling keyboards of Manzerak, whose left hand played the parts typically associated with bass guitar, and Krieger's guitar playing, which showed the influence of flamenco, indian, the blues and classical music.

Oliver Stone made a movie about the group in 1991.
