While [[Ballroom Dance]] includes most of the swing dances popular today, the swing and ballroom dance cultures are distinct. Club-style swing dancers often find ballroom dancers inexpressive and too worried about technique. Conversely, ballroom dancers may get frustrated when a swing dancer doesn't lead a step "correctly", or when they hold a figure several counts extra to match a break in the music. These, of course, are [[Broad Generalizations]].

Popular swing dances include:

[[Lindy Hop]] -- [[Charleston]] -- [[East Coast Swing]] (aka [[Triple Swing]] and [[Street Swing]])

[[Country Swing]] is yet another division of swing with a largely distinct culture.
