A cable television channel devoted to popular rock, rap, and other music videos.

MTV started in New York City in 1981. It became available in most of the United States in the late 1980s.

In the second half of the 1990s, MTV concentrated on non-music programming.

Aptly, the first video shown on MTV was "Video Killed The Radio Star", by Buggles.
