Classics
The study of the language, literature, history, art, and other aspects of ancient Greece and Rome.
Classics also refers to literature written in Western Europe prized by and extensivly studied by European and American intellectuals. Some examples are Shakespeare, Chaucer, and Don Quixote. Starting in the
1980s, classic books were attacked by various groups as
being from 'dead, white, western authors' and not representing
works from the groups 'pet' authors. These groups hypocricically advocated inclusion/study of all literature but excluded authors from areas outside of their 'pet' area. For example, feninists wanted feninist women authors and excluded male authors from AsiaChina.
Most of the Classic works are freely available online and are
public domain.
