Adolf_Hitler

Adolf Hitler was born on April 20th 1889 in Braunau am Inn, a small town in the state of Upper Austria (Oberoesterreich) on the AustroGerman border.

He used the byname Der Führer (German: The Leader). He was the leader of the national socialist (nazi) Party (from 1920/21) and dictator of Germany (1933-45). Officially chancellor (Kanzler) from Jan. 30, 1933, and, after President Paul von Hindenburg's death, he assumed the twin titles of Führer and chancellor (Aug. 2, 1934).

Hitler's father, Alois (born 1837), was illegitimate and for a time bore his mother's name, Schicklgruber, but by 1876 he had established his claim to the surname Hitler. Adolf never used any other name, and the name Schicklgruber was revived only by his political opponents in Germany and Austria in the 1930s.

Under Hitler's leadership and vision of a Nordic master race, Germany invaded several of its smaller neighbors, beginning World War II, and an attempt to systematically exterimate other peoples - notably the Jews - called the Holocaust.

After the Russians invaded Germany, Adolf Hitler commited suicide together with his lady friend Eva Braun on April 30th 1945 in his HQ in Berlin (Germany). He appointed Admiral Doenitz as the next Führer.
